Like Lobdell’s Teen Titans and Red Hood and the Outlaws (further down the list), this book just looks plain weird, to the point that I’m seriously interested in seeing what critical and consumer consensus is the day that it’s released – but nowhere near to the point that I’m willing to pay money for it beforehand. “Battling evil with his son, Damian, at his side, Batman now realizes that the hardest part of the job may be trying to work together! Maberry's story works very well, and in the middle, pairs up two of my favorite Marvel characters, Wolverine and Deadpool.

Each essay is well written, although not particularly scholarly. TIM-21, a robot on the run, is such a tragic and compelling figure. Ward’s work, in turn, was influenced by the woodcut novels of the Flemish artist Frans Masereel (author of the 1919 wordless novel Passionate Journey) and the German artist Otto Nückel (author of Destiny: A Novel in Pictures, published in 1930).
